Development Squad

Your journey with Braintree Town Youth F.C. starts with the Development Squad.

David Stacey runs a weekly session on Saturday mornings with boys and girls in Reception and Year 1 with a focus on fun and development. David has been with the club for a number of years and has helped hundreds of children begin their football careers.

Once they 'graduate' from the development squad they are placed into a team and will start playing organised matches - at this point the club look for enthusiastic parents to get involved in coaching and to take on a team.

Mini Soccer

Mini Soccer is for children in Years 2, 3, 4 or 5 and provides a fun, non-competitive environment for them to hone their skills and challenge their development at their own pace without any pressure from the coaches or parents. We learn by making mistakes and this allows our players to flourish in later years.

Under 7 teams begin playing at 3-a-side, and then progress to 5-a-side at Under 8s and Under 9s, before moving to 7-a-side at Under 10.

Youth Football

At Under 11 the children progress to 9-a-side and new rules, such as offside, are added. Their first year at this level remains non-competitive however at Under 12 the teams are placed into a league structure where they will challenge other clubs in the area in league and cup competitions. Promotion and relegation from these leagues follow into the next season as they continue through the different age groups into Under 13 and up to Under 18.

Beyond Youth Football

BTYFC have a number of different pathways for you to continue playing beyond youth football:

Under 18s (Mens) - Our U18 team play in the Thurlow Nunn League on Thursday evenings at Braintree Town F.C. stadium on Clockhouse Way. Players from this group are subject to invitations to train with the senior mens team and potentially break in to the side to play in the National League and National League North/South.

Braintree Athletic (Mens) - The team play in the Braintree & North Essex Sunday League with home fixtures taking place at Cressing.

Braintree Athletic (Womens) - The team play in the Premier Division of the Essex County Womens Football League with home fixtures taking place at Cressing.
